About:

Acceptance was the first and only song properly completed before The Old Anew EP was going to happen. Same as some of the earlier songs, this was initially written to be performed in my band at the time. However, it was rejected because of sounding both too happy and not heavy enough.

If anything the lyrical message for me is much stronger than the music itself. I was on the bus one day and it suddenly dawned on me: why in such a modern society are there those still against homosexuality? It got me so pissed off I had to write lyrics about it.

Being a heterosexual male, I can't understand it. I find it impossible to comprehend why we choose to hate other human beings when it's so much easier to love? We're brought into a world where we all belong to different races, gender's, sizes, beliefs, and countries. Yet there's still people condemning others for who they choose to love? Some of us are not so lucky to ever find love, so what gives us the right to hate those who do because of their gender?

It doesn't matter what gender we are, we shouldn't hate against what we may never have. Love is genderless, and some human beings seemed to have forgotten that.

This songs main influences came from hearing Melodic Hardcore outfit Napoleon, and wanted to do something that imitated their style. There's examples of melodic death metal riffs in there I'd held on to for a while, plus what I feel is the 'djentiest' riff on the whole EP.

Other musical influences came from Architects, Periphery, Born Of Osiris, Iron Maiden and even Animals As Leaders.

However, vocally for this song (aside from Callum's awesome sauce), I didn't possess the gritty aggressive style of screams that I wanted. Therefore, I asked my good friend Kris Price from Metalcore band Invictus to feature vocals reminiscent of Sam Carter and Howard Jones. He did beyond a perfect job of capturing that idea and am more than thankful for his work on this closing part of the EP.

I think the words that summed up this song though for me and Callum were 'Yeah that's pretty much perfect, but can you do it the octave above?'. Never has this man wanted to kill me more. After hearing what he's done I'm now convinced Callum is not only the best male vocalist I know but the best male Vocalist in Leicester. Having never heard a man with balls sing that high before, he truly earned my respect. His vocals in my opinion are one of the key listening points every time I play this EP back.

lyrics

Lyrics:

What makes us different?
What makes us hate?
Are we some kind of
Fucking master race

You think you know it all
But you know nothing
You make me sick
For making this something

This ain't a disease
This is no plague
But you still try to
Cure what cannot be cured

We hold the answer
Why's there a question?
We love who we want
And be who we are

We're not born to satisfy
What is deemed right or wrong
We're not all saints but we've all been sinners
Who's the sinner here?

There's no love like a love oppressed
Is humanity fading,
Where's the acceptance, is it all repressed
Do we not fight enough?

Who are you to choose, who are you to say
Judge to be judged, does that make it okay?

(You're nothing) for what you've done
(You're nothing), you think it's fun
(You're nothing), you think you've won
(You're nothing), its just begun

Trapped in this nightmare
Scared and alone
Lost with this guilt to bare
I'm on my own

about

Epiphany England, UK

Greetings earthlings! This page is dedicated to Epiphany, my progressive metal solo project.

Over the course of my time playing guitar, I've felt the restrictions of playing in a band that naturally comes with their given style and sound. Through this project, I hoped to deliver my own varied style and performance with my creative control.

It's not a question of why, but a question of why not?
